Founder and Senior Instructor

Arvid Lie

Arvid began his firefighting career in 1978 in his hometown Sandefjord, Norway. In a change of scenery, he began serving as a firefighter onboard SS Norway in 1980. Although he returned to land in 1982, when he started working for Oslo Fire Dept., his time at sea left a lasting impact. In 1986 he was back at Sandefjord Fire Department, but would soon find himself working in the maritime industry once again. In 1990 he was part of the Norwegian firefighter response team that assisted with the fire on onboard Scandinavian Star. He worked 5 years on/off as a firefighter with Norwegian Cruise Line, and from 1997 until 2012 he worked part time as a senior instructor for Norwegian Maritime Safety Consultants. Through all this, he continued to work fulltime as firefighter in Sandefjord, attaining the rank as Fire Captain and 2006, and finally retiring in 2014.

 

Since 2015 Arvid Lie has been working closely with Wilhelmsen and Viking Ocean Cruises, training the fire teams onboard all the ocean and expedition vessels, offering his full expertise and lifetime of experience and knowledge. He has also worked with Hurtigruten and Seadream Yacht Club.

Instructor

Jarle Taule

Jarle began working as a firefighter with Bergen Fire Dept. in 1983 until retired as a Fire Captain in 2017. In addition to his long career as a firefighter on land, Jarle also spent time working as a firefighter at sea with Norwegian Cruise Line in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005. At Bergen Fire Dept. he rose to the rank of head of the Maritime Rescue division, which he held from 2009 to 2015, where he also functioned as an instructor.

 

Jarle has worked as an instructor with Arvid Lie Maritime Fire and Safety since 2019

Instructor 

Joern Anders Groennod

Joern began his career as Firefighter and Search and Rescue (SAR) operator in the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1987. in 1993 he began working as a Firefighter for Sarpsborg Fire Dept., and in 1996 spent a year working as a firefighter on Norwegian Cruise Line, followed by a year as an Environmental Officer in 1999. During his time in these positions Joern grew an interest in teaching, and in 2002 began working as an Instructor and Discipline Supervisor with the Safety & Survival Academy in Borre. He then returned to the Norwegian Armed Forces in 2006 as a Training Officer/Firefighter, until he began working as Helicopter Rescue Operator with Bristow in 2009. Through his career Joern has held numerous positions as an instructor in a wide range of subjects within emergency operations, and has also been working through his own company Focus Rescue, offering courses in these subjects since 1993.

Joern has worked as an instructor with Arvid Lie Maritime Fire & Safety since 2020.

Instructor

Gunnar Gjone

Gunnar began working as a Firefighter with Sandefjord Fire Dept. in 1991, where he now holds the position of Fire Captain. He is specialized in Rope Rescue and first aid and has actively worked as an Instructor in these fields since 1989. During his time as a firefighter in Norway, he has taken time off to work as a firefighter at sea with Norwegian Cruise Line. Gunnar is also a former Maritime/Naval Special Forces operator with the Norwegian Armed Forces, where he was a specialist in communications and emergency medicine.

Instructor and Administator

Colin Kelley Lie

Colin is a Firefighter and Rescue Diver and currently works part-time with Sandefjord Fire Dept. and Larvik Fire Dept. He is an instructor and administrator and has worked with Arvid Lie Maritime Fire and Safety since 2019.
